Ministry's open tender to resume

THE open tender system will resume for electrical and mechanical works for projects carried out by the Works Ministry, said its minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed.

In a written reply to Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting (BN - Kulai), he said bumiputra contractors would have to compete with others and only be given priority in terms of price.

"This is in line with the government's objective to develop agenuine and successful bumi-putra industrial and commercial community. Thus, the issue raised by Yang Berhormat from Kulai should no longer be raised."

Kadar tol mungkin turun

KUALA LUMPUR 7 Mei - Kadar tol lebuh raya mungkin boleh diturunkan tetapi ia tertakluk kepada keputusan kajian konsesi lebuh raya yang sedang dijalankan Kementerian Kerja Raya.

Menterinya, Datuk Ir. Mohd. Zin Mohamed berkata kajian itu dijangka siap tiga bulan lagi dan ia menjadi asas rundingan semula perjanjian konsesi lebuh raya antara kerajaan dan syarikat konsesi lebuh raya di negara ini.

Paip bocor air limpah ke lobi

LOBI Parlimen dibanjiri air selepas sistem paip aluminium yang menjadi laluan mengalirkan air hujan di bangunan itu bocor, menyebabkan air melimpah masuk ke dalam saluran penghawa dingin, petang semalam. 

Kejadian jam 4.30 petang itu menyebabkan kawasan laluan ke bilik Yang Dipertua Dewan Rakyat, dibanjiri hujan yang mencurah daripada saluran penghawa dingin berkenaan selama hampir 15 minit dan memaksa kakitangan Parlimen segera menutup kawasan terbabit. 

Bangunan Parlimen bocor lagi

KUALA LUMPUR 7 Mei - Bangunan Parlimen yang telah dibaik pulih sejak kejadian bumbung bocor pada 28 April 2005, sekali lagi mengalami insiden hampir sama, ekoran hujan lebat petang ini.

Hujan lebat kira-kira pukul 4.30 petang menyebabkan air mencurah-curah keluar daripada saluran pendingin hawa di laluan tepi Dewan Rakyat berhadapan dengan bilik Yang Dipertua. 

PWD aims to reduce road deaths with new strategy

PUTRAJAYA: The Public Works Department has drawn up programmes to meet the government's target of reducing road deaths to two for every 10,000 registered vehicles by 2010. 

The programmes, under the ministry's Road Safety Plan 2006-2010, are based on accident prevention and accident reduction measures, said PWD director-general Datuk Dr Judin Abdul Karim.

"The accident prevention measures incorporate road safety auditing (RSA) for all new road projects during the planning, construction and operation stages of the project implementation.

Litrak to do better in 2009

RESEARCH firm Aseambankers Malaysia Bhd said it expects fiscal year ending March 31 2009 (FY09) to be better economically for Lingkaran Trans Holding B hd (Litrak) as traffic at the lebuh Raya Damansara-Pucong (LDP) is close to the level experienced before the January 2007 toll hike.

"Weekday traffic at the LDP averages 4600,000 vehicles per day (vpd) presently, a good improvement from 450,00 vpd early this year," it said in a report dated May 6 2008

Parlimen bocor sekali lagi

INSIDEN bumbung bangunan Parlimen bocor yang berlaku sebelum ini belum berakhir apabila bangunan penuh bersejarah itu, bocor sekali lagi ketika perbahasan titah ucapan Yang di-Pertuan Agong, semalam.

Kebocoran akibat hujan lebat itu disedari wakil media dan kakitangan Parlimen di lobi apabila melihat limpahan air dari bumbung berhampiran Dewan Rakyat yang sedang bersidang kira-kira jam 4.20 petang.

MTUC: Make pacts public

PETALING JAYA: While the possibility of a reduction in toll rates has been welcomed, transport and consumer groups are more concerned about making toll concession agreements public. "Over and above what consumers pay, the Government also has to fork out compensation using taxpayers? money"- SYED SHAHIR SYED MOHAMUD Malaysian Trade Union Council (MTUC) president Syed Sharir Syed Mahmud said the public wanted to know what was signed as it involved their money every time they crossed tollgates.

Toll review

KUALA LUMPUR-The Works Ministry will review highway concessions which may result in lower toll rates.

Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said he would call for a detailed study to be carried out before reviewing the concession agreements.

Some of the important factors to be considered, he said

"We will compare the toll collections, and maintenance and operational costs, as well as 'heavy' maintenance costs," he told reported at the Parliament lobby yesterday.
