Toll charges too high

RESIDEBTS of Taman Medan, Petaling Jaya are crying foul over the need to pay RM1.60 for toll whenever they pass the PJS2 toll plaza at the New Pantai Expressway (NPE).

They say they have no choice but to pass through the help of Taman Medan assemblyman Haniza Mohamed Talha about reducing the toll charges which they said were too high.

"The residents argue that the toll fare was not justifiable as the road was merely upgraded and not newly created, and the distance is too short," said Haniza.

Welcome news for long-suffering toll payers

SINCE the completion of the North South Expressway in 1994, this is the first time we have been told that there is a toll review mechanism clause in the concession agreements which prevents concessionaires from raising toll rates as they please, and that if the traffic volume hits a certain level, the toll increase can be averted.

Three cheers to Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed, Finally we have a minister who has studied the concession a agreement and told us, the toll payers, this provision in the agreement.

Ministry's open tender to resume

THE open tender system will resume for electrical and mechanical works for projects carried out by the Works Ministry, said its minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed.

In a written reply to Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting (BN - Kulai), he said bumiputra contractors would have to compete with others and only be given priority in terms of price.

"This is in line with the government's objective to develop agenuine and successful bumi-putra industrial and commercial community. Thus, the issue raised by Yang Berhormat from Kulai should no longer be raised."
