Pasukan khas pantau trafik musim raya

SUNGAI BULOH: Kementerian Kerjaraya menubuhkan pasukan peronda khas bagi memantau keadaan jalan dan cerun serta membantu mengawasi keadaan trafik di laluan kritikal sepanjang perayaan Aidilfitri ini. 

Menterinya, Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu, berkata pasukan itu juga akan memantau aliran trafik di jalan Persekutuan dan negeri dengan dibantu jawatankuasa lalu lintas peringkat daerah yang dianggotai polis, Jawatankuasa Keselamatan Jalan Raya (JKJR), Pejabat Daerah dan agensi lain. 

Pembinaan jambatan kedua gugat hasil nelayan

NIBONG TEBAL 2 Okt. - Kira-kira 800 nelayan dan pengusaha ternakan ikan dan kerang di sekitar Sungai Acheh di sini mendakwa pendapatan mereka terancam akibat kerja-kerja pembinaan projek Jambatan Kedua Pulau Pinang yang dijalankan berhampiran kawasan mereka. 

Sehubungan itu, mereka meminta supaya syarikat yang bertanggungjawab terhadap projek itu, UEM Builders Bhd. mengadakan sesi taklimat bagi menerangkan kesan projek tersebut kepada mereka secepat mungkin.

MTUC minta kekalkan kadar tol sedia ada

KONGRES Kesatuan Sekerja Malaysia (MTUC) berharap kerajaan dapat memastikan kadar tol di semua lebuh raya tidak akan dinaikkan pada tahun depan bagi mengelakkan beban kawangan kepada golongan perkerja di negara ini.

Presiden MTUC Syed Shahir Syed Mohamad berkata, sebarang kelulusan untuk kenaikan kadar tol lebuh raya akan menyebabkan berlakunya rantaian kenaikan barangan keperluan, perkhidmatan dan pengangkutan. 

Banning of superbikes on highway "not feasible"

KUALA LUMPUR: Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu?s suggestion to ban high capacity motorcycles on highways was strongly opposed by motorcycling associations yesterday.

Superbikers' Club Malaysia president Lt-Gen (Rtd) Tan Sri Mohamad Ngah said that by forcing motorcyclists off the highways and onto trunk roads, there was a possibility that even more accidents would occur.

"If they don't allow the use of superbikes on highways, even more motorcyclists will be involved in accidents. Highways are much safer.

Big bikes may face ban on highways

BOTA: Superbikers will be banned from the North-South Expressway (NSE) if they break traffic laws and disrupt the flow of traffic. 

"They go as fast as 170km per hour on the NSE and sometimes ride four abreast, two on each lane. They must follow the rules and regulations. I want to meet with the associations. If they (don't listen) I will impose a ban on them,? Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said after visiting the almost completed Ipoh-Lumut expressway yesterday.

He said the NSE was not a place for superbikers to race with one another.

Tiada kenaikan kadar tol- Samy Vellu

Kadar bayaran tol di semua lebuh raya tidak akan dinaikan selagi kajian mengenai cadangan kenaikan  membabitkan tujuh pemegang konsesi belum diserahkan kepada  Kabinet.

Menteri Kerja Raya, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu berkata, kadar bayaran tol di semua lebuh raya  tidak akan dinaikkan selagi kajian mengenai cadangan kenaikan membabitkan tujuh pemegang konsesi belum diserahkan kepada Kabinet.

"Kita tidak akan menaikkan kadar tol walaupun kadar tol  walaupun selepas 1 Januari depan selagi belum dapat kelulusan jemaah menteri," katanya.

Samy Vellu wants details

KUALA LUMPUR: Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said those responsible for the collapse of eight concrete beams of an uncompleted Kajang-Seremban Highway flyover near Pajam would face the music. 

He had instructed the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA) to investigate the Thursday night incident, and on Saturday the MHA handed its preliminary report to the minister.

Samy Vellu, however, wants a more detailed report.

Najib: No toll increase next year

PUTRAJAYA: There will be no toll increases next year, at least not until the Cabinet had discussed the matter, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. 

"Why do you speculate? Wait until the Cabinet decides," he told reporters when questioned on the toll increase that was announced by Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu on Sunday. 

Najib was speaking to reporters after chairing the Cabinet committee meeting on local government here yesterday. 

PWD to help reduce crashes on highways

KUALA LUMPUR- The Public Works Department (PWD) will be working with road safety related enforcement agencies from Oct 7 to 20 to help reduce accidents on the North-South Expressway (NSE) and all its highways.

Work Minister Datuk seri S. Samy Vellu said the department?s patrolling teams will not only monitor the highway?s road condition but also help to report road accidents and monitor the traffic flow.
