LLM buka laluan kontra ke utara

BUTTERWORTH: Lembaga Lebuh Raya Malaysia (LLM) akan mewujudkan lorong kontra untuk perjalanan menuju ke utara bagi menampung pertambahan kenderaan yang dijangka meningkat sempena Aidilfitri ini. 

Timbalan Ketua Pengarah (Perancangan dan Pembangunan) LLM, Ismail Md Salleh, berkata lorong itu akan dibuka dari Rawang ke Tanjung Malim, mulai Rabu ini hingga hari raya pertama. 

Many support Superbikes ban On Highways, Says Samy Vellu

SUNGAI SIPUT, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Many people are in support of having superbikes banned on highways, said Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

"I have received many calls of support (for the ban)... they support because superbikes take up a lot of the road," he said.

He said that legal officers at his ministry were drafting the proposal for the ban before submitting it to the government for approval.

Laluan Smart tutup tiga jam

KUALA LUMPUR-Terowong Pengurusan  Air Banjir dan Jalan (SMART) laluan kearah Seremban akan ditutup selama tiga jam pada pagi Ahad ini untuk latihan kebakaran.

Ia membabitkan dek atas terowong itu dan akan ditutup mulai jam 8 pagi hingga 11 pagi, kata syarikat itu dalam satu kenyataan semalam.

Latihan kebakaran itu membabitkan Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat serta agensi kerajaan.

Banjir: SRT(T) Ladang Bukit Jalil dibina baru

Kuala Lumpur 16 Okt. -  Kerajaan akan membina bangunan baru bernilai RM650,000 bagi menggantikan bangunan Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Tamil Ladang Bukit Jalil dalam tempoh sebulan.

Menteri Kerja Raya, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu berkata, pelan untuk sekolah baru itu telah diluluskan dan lokasi tapak baru untuk bangunan sekolah tersebut terletak kira-kira satu kilometer dari lokasi asal serta berdekatan dengan kuil.

Katanya, Pejabat Tanah dan Galian telah bersetuju menyediakan tanah seluas 0.4 hektar di kawasan yang lebih selamat untuk tujuan tersebut.

New building for flood-hit school

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has approved a RM650,000 allocation to build a new school for pupils of a flood-prone Tamil school in Puchong.

Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said the building plans for the new two-storey school had already been drawn up by the Public Works Department and would have 12 classrooms.

He was speaking after launching Astro's Attam 100 Vagai 3 dance competition at a hotel here.

Ruling will affect tourism industry'

Do not single us out because of a few bad apples.

That was the response by The Superbikers Club Malaysia to the proposal by Works Minister Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu that the government ban motorcycles on the North-South Highway if they continue to flout the traffic rules.

Bernama had, on Monday, quoted the minister as saying that he saw four high-powered motorcycles racing on two lanes of the highway, going at 170kph and endangering the safety of other motorists.

Several areas in Klang Valley flooded after downpour

THE downpour on Tuesday evening resulted in floods at several areas in the Klang Valley. The Smart Tunnel was temporarily closed to be on standby.  

Kampung Paka in the Sungei Besi area was perhaps the worst hit, with floodwaters reaching 1.22m. It was the third time flash flood hit the area within four days. The first two incidents, which were less serious, occurred last Saturday and Sunday.  

Time to toll the superbikers

ALOR STAR: The Government should consider imposing toll on superbikes and choppers instead of banning them from highways, said Ride for Peace chairman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah. 

He said most of those who own such big motorcycles were professionals who could afford to pay toll. 

"This is an option the Government could consider to increase toll revenue," he said, adding that the Government could use part of the revenue to provide better facilities on highways to accommodate superbikes.  

Cranes and tow-trucks on standby

KUALA LUMPUR: Cranes and tow-trucks will be on standby at strategic locations on expressways to immediately clear vehicles involved in accidents during the festive season.  

This is part of a package of measures undertaken to ensure safer road travel during the Hari Raya holidays, said Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu. 

He also said that heavy vehicles would not be allowed on the expressways three days before and after Hari Raya.
