KUALA LUMPUR: Cranes and tow-trucks will be on standby at strategic locations on expressways to immediately clear vehicles involved in accidents during the festive season.

This is part of a package of measures undertaken to ensure safer road travel during the Hari Raya holidays, said Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

He also said that heavy vehicles would not be allowed on the expressways three days before and after Hari Raya.

"We will also stop construction work along all highways," he said when launching the festive season road-safety campaign at the Sungai Buloh rest area yesterday.

He also urged motorists to be wary of the accident-prone areas along federal roads and expressways.

Among them are the Km144 to Km164 of the Kuantan-Kuala Lumpur Road; Km19 to Km27 of the Kuala Selangor-Kuala Lumpur Road and the Km4.8 to Km43 of the Seremban-Johor Baru Road.

Others are the Km82 to Km212 of the Johor Baru-Malacca Road; Km8, Km29, Km35, Km155 and Km169 of the Johor Baru-Kuantan Road; Km8 to Km70 of the Alor Star-Butterworth Road and Km128 to Km198 of the Kota Baru-Kuala Lumpur Road.

The speed limit on all federal roads will be reduced by 10kph from Saturday to Nov 12 to curb accidents.

Complaints about road conditions can be made to the toll-free line at 1-800 88 5004 or 1-800 88 7752, short messaging service to DAPAT (32728) or e-mail to aduan@jkr.gov.my.

He also advised motorists not to use the emergency lanes.
