Samy Vellu ancam larangan motosikal guna lebuh raya

PARIT - Setelah melihat sendiri empat penunggang motosikal berkuasa besar berlumba di Lebuh Raya Utara-Selatan kelmarin, Menteri Kerja Raya, Datuk Seri Samy Vellu berkata, kerajaan mungkin mengharamkan motosikal daripa menggunakan lebuh raya jika mereka ini mengaancam nyawa pengguna lain.

Beliau berkata, langkah drastik itu terpaksa diambil jika penunggang morosikal terus mengabaikan undang-undang dengan berlumba di lebuh raya.

10% hike in toll charges

IPOH: Malaysians can expect a 10% increase in toll rates, with eight concessionaires raising their charges form Jan 1 next year, said Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

However, he said the ministry was working on several proposals to spread part of the cost the concessionaire and the Government.

"Rather than burden the people, we want to divide the load so the companies carry a bit and the people a bit.

Trans-Eastern Highway to generate spillover benefits

WORK Minister Datuk S. Samy Vellu said there will be a spillover effect when the RM 489.5 million Trans-Eastern  Kedah Interland Trans-Eastern Highway is completed in two years.State ?owned Bina Darulaman Bhd (BDB) is the main contractor for the 116 km toll-free highway job, which will connect Durian Burung to Baling.

"When the highways is completed, we expect new infrastructure, housing and industrial development in the are," Samy Vellu toll Business Times at the launch of Stevens TPO roofing membrane system in Kuala Lumpur last  Thursday.

35 kerosakan di Kompleks Penyiaran Negeri Sembilan

SEREMBAN: Kementerian Penerangan mengesan 35 jenis kerosakan pada struktur bangunan Kompleks Penyiaran Negeri Sembilan di Sungai Gadut, Senawang, dekat sini, yang dibina dengan kos RM38.5 juta dan baru digunakan awal bulan lalu. 

Antara kerosakan itu ialah pada siling yang berpunca daripada sistem hawa dingin, tandas orang kenamaan, jalan masuk ke kompleks serta beberapa kemudahan di bahagian dalaman, tetapi tiada yang membabitkan peralatan penyiaran Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM). 

Formula baru syarat konsesi tol dirangka

KUALA LUMPUR: Kerajaan sedang merumus formula konsesi tol baru yang akan memberi faedah dan manfaat yang sama rata kepada pengguna, syarikat konsesi, kerajaan serta institusi kewangan yang membiayai pembinaan sesuatu lebuh raya. 

Menteri Kerjaraya, Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu, berkata keputusan itu dibuat bagi mengatasi kekurangan dan kelemahan perjanjian konsesi sedia ada dengan mengambil kita pandangan semua pihak terbabit. 

Tunnel proves its worth

KUALA LUMPUR: The Storm-water Management and Road Tunnel (Smart) justified its RM2 billion waters form the city on Monday.

The tunnel diverted more than 550,000 cubic metres of rain water which would have flooded parts of the city.

The success proved a double celebration for Smart as it was also the tunnel's first flood diversion exercise since its completion in late June.

"Monday's incident proved that Smart was capable of battling flash floods," said Kuala Lumpur flood mitigation project director John Abraham.

New scheme for toll pacts in the offing

KUALA LUMPUR: The Government is formulating a new scheme for future toll concessions, Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said. 

He said the scheme would provide equal benefits to consumers, concession companies, financiers and the Government. 

"The new scheme, which is being worked out, will further enhance the country's privatisation policy," he said in Paris yesterday, where he was leading a 16-member delegation to the five-day World Road Congress. 

Investing on roads in ECER

KUALA LUMPUR: The Eastern Corridor Economic Region (ECER) will cost RM112bil of which 40% will be spent to build roads to spur development, said Petronas president Tan Sri Hassan Merican. 

"Enhancement of transportation connectivity and economic linkages with the Western Corridor, the Iskandar Development Region (IDR) and the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) are key factors needed for the ECER to succeed," he said. 

Contractor in trouble

SEREMBAN: The Government might slap a penalty against the main contractor whose negligence caused damage at the newly completed RTM RM38mil-complex near here. 

A leak at the air-condition vent caused flooding at the ground floor of the building. The complex was opened on Aug 1. 

Information Ministry secretary-general Datuk Kamarudin Siaraf said the contractor's lackadaisical attitude towards maintenance had affected the ministry's image.
