Pengarah Urusan Plus, Noorizah Abd Hamid, berkata pengguna lebuh raya dinasihatkan menggunakan jadual perjalanan yang dicadangkan pengurusan Plus bagi mengelakkan kesesakan, selain membantu mengurangkan risiko kemalangan di musim perayaan.

Close call for couple

KUALA LUMPUR: A 56-year-old retiree and his wife had a narrow escape when they got caught in rising floodwaters on the southern approach to the Smart Tunnel here. 

The man, who only wanted to be known as Peter, said he was heading to Cheras from Sungai Besi at about 4.15 Tuesday but ended up on the road to the tunnel. 

"As I drove down a slope, I saw a pool of water. I decided to drive through it. I only realised the water was quite high when I was already in the pool and my car came to a halt," he said when contacted. 

Ruling will affect tourism industry'

That was the response by The Superbikers Club Malaysia to the proposal by Works Minister Datuk Seri S Samy Vellu that the government ban motorcycles on the North-South Highway if they continue to flout the traffic rules.

Bernama had, on Monday, quoted the minister as saying that he saw four high-powered motorcycles racing on two lanes of the highway, going at 170kph and endangering the safety of other motorists.

Time to toll the superbikers

ALOR STAR: The Government should consider imposing toll on superbikes and choppers instead of banning them from highways, said Ride for Peace chairman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah. 

He said most of those who own such big motorcycles were professionals who could afford to pay toll. 

"This is an option the Government could consider to increase toll revenue," he said, adding that the Government could use part of the revenue to provide better facilities on highways to accommodate superbikes.  

New building for flood-hit school

KUALA LUMPUR: The Education Ministry has approved a RM650,000 allocation to build a new school for pupils of a flood-prone Tamil school in Puchong.

Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said the building plans for the new two-storey school had already been drawn up by the Public Works Department and would have 12 classrooms.

He was speaking after launching Astro's Attam 100 Vagai 3 dance competition at a hotel here.

Laluan Smart tutup tiga jam

KUALA LUMPUR-Terowong Pengurusan  Air Banjir dan Jalan (SMART) laluan kearah Seremban akan ditutup selama tiga jam pada pagi Ahad ini untuk latihan kebakaran.

Ia membabitkan dek atas terowong itu dan akan ditutup mulai jam 8 pagi hingga 11 pagi, kata syarikat itu dalam satu kenyataan semalam.

Latihan kebakaran itu membabitkan Jabatan Bomba dan Penyelamat serta agensi kerajaan.

Many support Superbikes ban On Highways, Says Samy Vellu

SUNGAI SIPUT, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- Many people are in support of having superbikes banned on highways, said Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu.

"I have received many calls of support (for the ban)... they support because superbikes take up a lot of the road," he said.

He said that legal officers at his ministry were drafting the proposal for the ban before submitting it to the government for approval.

Bangunan lembaga atom bocor

DENGKIL: Hampir seluruh bangunan baru dua tingkat bernilai RM30 juta yang menempatkan pejabat Lembaga Pelesenan Tenaga Atom di Dengkil, dekat sini kelmarin mengalami kebocoran tidak sampai dua bulan diduduki. 

Limpahan air dari bumbung bangunan itu ke tingkat bawah menyebabkan beberapa panel siling runtuh dan sekurang-kurangnya empat komputer rosak 

Seorang pegawai yang enggan dikenali berkata beliau terkejut mendapati ruang pejabat digenangi air apabila tiba jam 7.30 pagi semalam.
