Litrak to do better in 2009

RESEARCH firm Aseambankers Malaysia Bhd said it expects fiscal year ending March 31 2009 (FY09) to be better economically for Lingkaran Trans Holding B hd (Litrak) as traffic at the lebuh Raya Damansara-Pucong (LDP) is close to the level experienced before the January 2007 toll hike.

"Weekday traffic at the LDP averages 4600,000 vehicles per day (vpd) presently, a good improvement from 450,00 vpd early this year," it said in a report dated May 6 2008

Parlimen bocor sekali lagi

INSIDEN bumbung bangunan Parlimen bocor yang berlaku sebelum ini belum berakhir apabila bangunan penuh bersejarah itu, bocor sekali lagi ketika perbahasan titah ucapan Yang di-Pertuan Agong, semalam.

Kebocoran akibat hujan lebat itu disedari wakil media dan kakitangan Parlimen di lobi apabila melihat limpahan air dari bumbung berhampiran Dewan Rakyat yang sedang bersidang kira-kira jam 4.20 petang.

MTUC: Make pacts public

PETALING JAYA: While the possibility of a reduction in toll rates has been welcomed, transport and consumer groups are more concerned about making toll concession agreements public. "Over and above what consumers pay, the Government also has to fork out compensation using taxpayers? money"- SYED SHAHIR SYED MOHAMUD Malaysian Trade Union Council (MTUC) president Syed Sharir Syed Mahmud said the public wanted to know what was signed as it involved their money every time they crossed tollgates.

Toll review

KUALA LUMPUR-The Works Ministry will review highway concessions which may result in lower toll rates.

Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said he would call for a detailed study to be carried out before reviewing the concession agreements.

Some of the important factors to be considered, he said

"We will compare the toll collections, and maintenance and operational costs, as well as 'heavy' maintenance costs," he told reported at the Parliament lobby yesterday.

Kadar tol mungkin turun - Menteri

KUALA LUMPUR - Kadar tol lebuh raya mungkin boleh diturunkan tetapi ia tertakluk kepada keputusan kajian konsesi lebuh raya yang sedang dijalankan Kementerian Kerja Raya.

Menteri Kerja Raya, Datuk Ir. Mohd. Zin Mohamed berkata, penentuan sama ada kadar tol dinaikkan atau sebaliknya pada masa akan datang juga akan ditentukan oleh jumlah trafik yang melalui sesebuah lebuh raya itu.

Katanya, ia adalah antara yang terdapat pada klausa Toll Review Mechanisme yang dikemukakan kepada syarikat konsesi lebuh raya.

Toll pact review

KUALA LUMPUR (May 7, 2008): The Works Ministry will spend the next three months to review all 22 highway concession agreements to prevent toll increases without justification, an issue that renews itself everytime a toll adjustment is on the card.

Its minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said there was a new clause in the agreements for toll review mechanism that disallowed the concessionaires from raising toll without justification.

He said before the toll rate could be adjusted, the traffic volume, operation and maintenance cost of a highway must be studied thoroughly.

NPE setuju selesai masalah penduduk

PETALING JAYA - Penduduk sekitar Taman Medan dan Taman Datuk Harun yang sebelum ini membantah kewujudan Plaza Tol lebuh raya Pantai Baru (NPE) bakal menarik nafas lega selepas masalah mereka mendapat perhatian syarikat yang diberikan konsesi menguruskannya, New Pantai Expressway Sdn Bhd (NPE).

Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Taman Medan, Haniza Mohamed Talha berkata, syarikat berkenaan sudah menyatakan persetujuan untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang selama ini membelenggu penduduk di sini.

Four arrested in Cheras demo

KAJANG: Four people were picked up after they demonstrated at Bandar Mahkota, Cheras, due to road works being carried out at a traffic light junction leading to the area.

The demonstration which saw about 1,000 people, mostly residents from the nearby areas, gathering from 4pm to stop the work conducted by workers.

The protesting crowd played a cat-and-mouse game with the authorities until 10.30pm when the situation worsened.

LLM kaji tak naik, kurang kadar tol

KUALA LUMPUR: Lembaga Lebuh Raya Malaysia (LLM), menubuhkan jawatankuasa khas bagi melaksanakan kajian untuk memastikan tiada kenaikan kadar tol di semua lebuh raya seluruh negara. 

Ketua Pengarah LLM, Datuk Razali Osman, berkata jawatankuasa itu yang dianggotai agensi pakar dalam pelbagai bidang, akan turut meneliti kadar pengurangan tol dan kesannya kepada semua pihak termasuk syarikat konsesi lebuh raya. 

Second Penang Bridge plan on despite delay

GEORGE TOWN: The Second Penang Bridge project is on track despite announcements that may have suggested otherwise. Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said the federal government would proceed with the RM4.3 billion project linking Batu Kawan in Seberang Perai Selatan and Batu Maung on the island.

He said the government had wanted to review the construction cost, design and land acquisition process and not the project itself.
