KUALA LUMPUR: Lorries will be allowed to carry 20% more load on federal roads after bridges along the routes have been repaired and upgraded.
Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamad said the move would keep transportation costs down and allow the industry to be more efficient.
The Pan Malaysia Lorry Owners Association (PMLOA) and the Association of Malaysia Hauliers (AMH) lauded the move, saying it would help maintain escalating operational costs.

Beliau berkata ia berkuatkuasa dalam tempoh dua minggu dari sekarang, iaitu selepas digazetkan.
"Cadangan untuk menaikkan had axle load (had muatan) daripada 10 tan kepada 12 tan dibuat selepas mengambil kira pembaikan dan penaiktarafan jambatan di sekitar jalan Persekutuan yang sedia ada.

KUALA LUMPUR 23 April - Kementerian Kerja Raya memperuntukkan RM41.5 juta untuk membaik pulih dan menaik taraf 40 buah Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) bantuan modal di seluruh negara.
Menteri Kerja Raya, Datuk Ir. Mohd. Zin Mohamed (gambar) berkata, projek yang bakal dilaksanakan di bawah Rancangan Malaysia Kesembilan (RMK-9) itu melibatkan 11 sekolah di Selangor dan masing-masing dua di Perak serta Johor.
Menurutnya, kerja bagi melaksanakan projek tersebut diagihkan kepada kontraktor kelas B, C, D, E dan F.
FORTY Tamil schools will be renovated and upgraded at a cost of RM 41.5 million.
Work Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said RM30 milion will be allocated by the Finance Ministry while RM11.5 million will be from the Education Ministry.

KUALA TERENGGANU 23 April - Keputusan kerajaan untuk mengkaji semula pelaksanaan projek di bawah Rancangan Malaysia Kesembilan (RMK-9) khususnya yang bertaraf mega adalah langkah proaktif bagi mengelakkan negara menanggung beban kewangan yang lebih parah.
Presiden Kesatuan Kontraktor Melayu Malaysia, Senator Datuk Roslan Awang Chik berkata, langkah tersebut amat bijak kerana sekiranya diteruskan kesannya bukan sahaja dihadapi negara malah turut menjejaskan kehidupan rakyat.
KUALA LUMPUR: Tenders to refurbish or upgrade 40 Tamil schools will be issued by the Works Ministry next month.
Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said work on the projects, worth RM41.5mil in total, would start in July.
The allocation for the projects is from the Finance Ministry (RM30mil) and Education Ministry (RM11.4mil).
Mohd Zin said 25 of the projects would be distributed to Class D contractors, 10 to Class F contractors, three to Class E and one each for Class B and C contractors.
KUALA LUMPUR: The roof over Parliament House has finally been repaired.
And the new Works Minister, Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed, said the Public Works Department had given a guarantee there would be no more leaks.
"I have overseen the work and received the technical report and I am satisfied with it," he said after a visit.
He had directed the Parliament House's building management and the PWD to check the building and see if there were other weaknesses that needed to be rectified.
PETALING JAYA: The construction industry will soon have its first standard system of inspection of new and existing buildings, once the Architect Centre Sdn Bhd is launched on May 8.
The Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) said the standard would be especially useful in relation to discovery of visible defects, appraisal of quality of workmanship and the dissemination of advice to rectify such defects.
