New road to Fraser's closed by landslide

For the time being, the old regulated gate system, which carries out ascents and descents for visitors to Fraser's Hill via timed intervals, will be in effect.

The RM50 million road, linking the Gap to the hill resort, has been rendered unpassable since last December following a massive landslide.

The road, completed in 2001, is used by motorists when heading up to Fraser's Hill while the old road is used when coming down.

Authorities anticipate the road would be re-opened in six months to a year's time.

Dr Ng : Road riddled with problems

Raub member of Parliamen Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen appeared guarded when asked to comment about the closure of  the new road from the Gap to Fraser's Hill.

She did stress that the matter was "complicated, as one would have to consider the whole stretch of road and not just the area affected by the landslide.

"In early 2000, we requested the Federal Government to built a new road.

"The road was built to enhance the image of  Fraser's Hill. Since then, the road has been plagued by many technical problems," she said.

Road works delayed as slope still active

Repair Work'ss on the collapsed road to Fraser's Hill cannot be carried out effectively as the slope is still active.

Officers from the Ministry of Works, who visited the site on Wednesday, told the ministry?s secretary general, Datuk Dr Adbdul Munit Kasmin, the grim news.

" I was told that the slope is still active and is prone to added landslides if not dealt monitor the situation closely before starting remedial work," he said.

Terowong Smart dibuka

KUALA LUMPUR: Syarikat Mengurus Air Banjir dan Terowong (Smart), membuka semula terowong itu kepada lalu lintas pada 5 petang semalam.

Dalam kenyataan akhbarnya, Smart memaklumkan terowong itu ditutup sejak 6 petang pada 22 Mac lalu bagi membolehkan Sistem Operasi Banjir dilaksanakan berikutan ribut petir melanda ibu kota dan memohon maaf di atas segala kesulitan yang berlaku.

SMART dibuka kesesakan pulih

KUALA LUMPUR 26 Mac - Kesesakan lalu lintas yang dialami warga kota sejak beberapa hari lalu kembali pulih seperti biasa apabila Terowong Pengurusan Air Banjir dan Jalan Raya (SMART) dibuka semula kepada semua kenderaan petang ini.

Terowong yang mula dibuka kepada pengguna jalan raya pada pukul 5 petang itu berjaya melancarkan perjalanan orang ramai terutama mereka yang mahu pulang selepas waktu kerja.

Jurucakap Bilik Kawalan SMART memaklumkan orang ramai sudah mula menggunakan terowong itu yang dibuka kepada semua kenderaan dari arah utara dan selatan.

Kontraktor perlu kerja satu pasukan rebut projek luar negara

SHARJAH (UAE) 14 Jan. - Syarikat-syarikat kontraktor dari Malaysia digalakkan supaya bekerjasama dalam satu kumpulan bagi membolehkan mereka menawarkan perkhidmatan yang lebih menyeluruh kepada pelanggan di luar negara termasuk di Asia Barat.

Kerja Raya terima peruntukan RM4 bilion

KUALA LUMPUR 15 Jan - Kementerian Kerja Raya dijangka menerima peruntukan berjumlah RM4 bilion untuk pengurusan semua projeknya tahun ini.

Menterinya, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu bagaimanapun berkata, jumlah itu dijangka masih belum mencukupi berbanding projek-projek yang perlu disiapkan.

"Secara keseluruhan, jumlah projek yang perlu dilaksanakan bernilai RM7 bilion," katanya selepas melancarkan perayaan Pongal Peringkat Kebangsaan di sini hari ini.

Jejantas: LLM tunai janji

GOMBAK 9 Jan.- Lembaga Lebuhraya Malaysia (LLM) akan mengotakan janjinya kepada para penduduk Taman Koperasi Polis Fasa 2, Taman Melewar dan kawasan sekitarnya untuk membina jejantas yang mempunyai laluan sikal.

Ketua pengarahnya, Datuk Ir. Mohamad Razali Othman berkata, laluan sikal tersebut akan dibina dalam masa terdekat ini bagi memberi kemudahan kepada penduduk tersebut.

"Kami akan membina lalaun sikal tersebut seperti yang dipersetujui sebelum ini bagi memberi kemudahan kepada penduduk terbabit terutamanya kanak-kanak sekolah untuk menyeberang lebuh raya tersebut.

Bridge work can resume

GEORGE TOWN: With the lifting of a stop-work order yesterday, the sea dredging for the second Penang Bridge can resume. 

State Tourism Development and Environment Committee chairman Teng Chang Yeow said UEM Builders Bhd and its contractors had complied with the Department of Environment's requirements.

The DOE had issued the order in December because they had failed to install a General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) system on their barges so their movements could be tracked via satellite.

Work on new highway to begin

KUALA LUMPUR: The construction of the much-awaited South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE) from Pulau Indah to Nilai will start in a few weeks. 

Works Minister Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said an agreement with the bankers and the contractors was scheduled in two weeks.

"The finer details of the loan from the bank and the amount the company has to fork out will be discussed and an agreement will be signed in two weeks," he said.

In July last year, it was announced that a RM1.1 billion contract had been awarded to build the SKVE.
