SEREMBAN- About RM6 million has been allocated to repair 20 spots along the Seremban- Kuala Pilah road in Bukit Putus, near, where landslides had caused the road to be closed to heavy vehicles over the past week.

State Public Work Department director Dr Roslan Md taha said remedial work had started, including on three hillslopes  that had been categorized as critical as they were near road shoulders.

The road, which has been closed to heavy vehicles since the previous Monday, is the main link between Kuala Pilah and Jempol. It is also alternative route to the east coast .

State executive councilor for Infrastructure, Water, Energy and Telecommunications Datuk Ismail Lasim said they had to ban heavy vehicles from using the road as they feared the weight of such vehicles might trigger another landslide.

To ensure the smooth flow of traffic, he said all heavy vehicles were directed to use the Seremban-Tampin road or the highway to Kuala Pilah.

However, light vehicles and inter-city buses were allowed to use the road for public convenience.

Roslan said repairs were expected to be completed earlier than the three-week estimate.

Meanwhile, Roslan said the closure of Jalan Miku-Kampung Batu, near Rembau, to all vehicles would continue as the authorities were still conducting tests there.

"Compared with Bukit Putus, this road is badly damaged due to landslides and repairs will take longer and involve a much higher cost.

"Road users are advised to follow the signs for the available alternative routes,".
