KUALA TERENGGANU, May 27 - YB. Datuk Fadillah Yusof had his first working visit as the Minister of Works to the East Coast Expressway Phase 2 (LPT2) today to observe the progress of this project. Also present were Terengganu State Executive councilor, YB. Ir. Rosli bin Othman (Chairman of Works and Transportation Committee), YBhg. Datuk Himmat Singh, Secretary General of MoW, the Chief Director of the Agency and top management and senior MOW officials.

The program began with a briefing of the LPT2 project by the Construction Director, YBrs. Tuan Ir. Adnan Ibrahim at the LPT2 office in Kuala Terengganu. The working visit commenced by exploring Kuala Terengganu Toll Plaza and next down the range from 12 Package to 9B Package about 86.96km. YB. Minister and the delegation later visited the site office before moving back to 9B package.

LPT2 is an extension of the East Coast Expressway Phase 1 and an alternative route for the Federal Road 14 and Federal Way 3. The government has agreed to implement the project commencing in July 2004, from Jabor to Kuala Terengganu (Kampung Gemuruh) of over 184 miles. The construction of LPT2 implemented through 12 main packages and is based on rescheduling, the entire project is expected to be fully completed and opened to traffic as early as mid-2014.

KUALA TERENGGANU, May 27 – Minister of Works, YB. Datuk Fadillah Yusof officiated the Public Works Department (PWD) Malaysia Senior Officials Meeting 2013 today at Dewan Kenanga, Terengganu Equestrian Resort, Kuala Terengganu.

YB. Minister also willing to present an award to the selected beneficiaries on this occasion. Contested award were the District PWD Management Award, Best Office Management Award, Construction Management Award, Best Web Site Management Award and Best Contractor Excellence Award.

In his speech, YB. Works Minister called on MoW folks to join hands together as one cohesive organization, cultivate a spirit of determination and hard work to improve productivity by triggering the idea of ​​creative innovation towards PWD excellence.

The annual meeting was held for three days from 27 to 29 May 2013 with the theme 'Pencetus Inspirasi, Penjana Transformasi'. Various activities were organized, including dialogue sessions, presentations of paper works, exhibitions and technical tours. Also present at the ceremony were the Deputy Minister of Works, YB. Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin, Terengganu state executive councilor, YB. Ir. Rosli bin Othman (Chairman of the Public Works and Transportation Committee), YBhg. Datuk Himmat Singh, Chief Secretary of MoW, YBhg. Dato’ Seri Ir. Mohd Noor Yaacob, Chief Director of Public Works, the Director General of the Agency and top management and senior officials of MoW.

KUALA LUMPUR, May 2 - In appreciation for the services rendered by the drivers at the Ministry of Works (MOW), the top management represented by YBhg. Datuk Himmat Singh, General Secretary of MOW has approved the application to provide a resting room for drivers. This room which is located on the Ground floor of Block B, Kompleks Kerja Raya has been operational from early February this year.

With regards to that, an opening ceremony to officiate the driver’s resting room was held today by YBrs. Encik Sarani bin Dollah, Deputy Secretary General (Operations), MOW. According to him, the room would be a convenience for the drivers so that they can relax in comfort and symbolizes the appreciation for their service which is seen important in the MOW organization. He hopes that the facility would be well kept by the drivers in accordance with the undertaking signed by each driver.

The drivers have expressed their gratitude for the appreciation and feels that it is an excellent opportunity for all the drivers to cultivate team spirit as they would be able to share their experiences and knowledge with each other. It was disclosed at an interview with Encik Mohd Rozi bin Ibrahim and through the speech by the driver’s representative, Encik Omar bin Yahya. The ceremony was also attended by SUB Administration, SUB Finance and the staffs involved in managing the affairs of the drivers.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 28 - In conjunction with the International Construction Week (ICW) 2013, The Malaysian Construction Industry Excellence Awards (MCIEA) 2012 was held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) tonight. The MCIEA award was presented by the Chief Secretary, Hon. Dato' Sri Dr. Ali Hamsa.

A total of 13 winners of five categories were celebrated on this occasion. The Prominent Player Award was given to Dato' Ng Kee Leen, Executive Director of Gamuda Berhad. Seven contractors were selected for the Contractor Awards category namely  IJM Construction Sdn Bhd (category G7), Putra Sentosa Enterprise (G6), Moncheh Technology (M) Sdn Bhd (G5), Renoplex Sdn Bhd (G4), Kluang Setia Development Sdn Bhd (G3), 1st Builders Sdn Bhd (G2) and Double R Enterprise (G1).

For the Project Awards category, companies selected were Bina Puri Construction Sdn. Bhd. (Eastern Dispersal Link - EDL, Johor Bahru), Kluang Loyal Development Sdn. Limited. (Housing Development in Kluang, Johor) and Digione Malaysia Sdn. Limited. (Building Naza Kia Malaysia, Petaling Jaya).

The award for International Achievement Award was presented to Sunway Construction Sdn. Bhd. (Construction of Zayed Sports City Development, Abu Dhabi, UAE), where as the Special Award for Innovation went to the team in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) (DNA Damper System).

MCIEA 2012 is in the twelfth year of organization and is the award for the construction industry players which were selected through a rigorous review process by the committee and the panel of judges. According to Hon. Dato 'Sri Ir. Dr. Judin Abdul Karim, Chief Executive of CIDB, in his opening remarks, 212 entries were received and recorded an increase in the figure from the previous year.

"I also understand that this figure does not reflect the increase in the sheer quantity, but also in terms of improving the quality of construction design and environmental sustainability," she added.

Also present at the ceremony was the Secretary General Ministry of Works, Hon. Datuk Himmat Singh and the senior officials from relevant ministries and agencies.

KUALA LUMPUR, March 27 - A Signing ceremony of the Federal Common Users Buildings Maintenance of the Central Zone (Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor) was held today at the Tanjung Room, 6th Floor, Block A, Kompleks Kerja Raya.

This agreement is for a period of five years from 1 September 2012 to 31 August 2017 and it involves three buildings in the Central Zone namely Kompleks Kerajaan Bukit Perdana, Rumah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur and Bangunan Persekutuan Petaling Jaya which is owned Property Management Division (CPD), Prime Minister's Department.

The Company that maintains these services is Chulia Facilities Management Sdn. Bhd. (CFMSB). The agreement was signed by YBhg. Datuk Himmat Singh, Chief Secretary, Ministry of Works and YBhg. Dato’ Haji Nasir bin Mat Dam, Deputy Secretary General (Development) as a witness on behalf of the Government. The Representatives from Chulia Facilities Management Sdn. Bhd. were Mr. Shafie, (Managing Director) and Mr. Saiful Bahari bin Jalil (Director) who acted as the witness on behalf of the Contractor. The ceremony was also attended by senior officials of the Ministry.

TAMPIN, March 7 – The construction of the New Tampin Hospital is a long term plan which is expected to bring benefits to all communities in the district through comfortable health services and other specialized treatment in line with the growing population on a daily basis. The hospital is an alternative to the existing hospital and implemented through the implementation of design and build.

Works Minister, YB. Dato’ Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor, who is also a member of Parliament Tampin made working visit to the hospital for a physical check on the progress of this project together with the Minister of Health, YB. Dato' Sri Liow Tiong Lai.  According to him, this project is one of the projects under the 9MP at a cost of RM139 million.  The scope includes construction of two storey blocks with 108 patient beds, three blocks of staff quarters, a residential block, nurse hostel and also consists of a total of 474 parking lots.

The construction program is for duration of 46 months, starting from March 2, 2009 and will be completed on March 31, 2013 and expected to be submitted to the Ministry of Health, Malaysia on 30 April 2013. The implementation of this project is operated by Health Works Branch, Public Works Department (PWD) and the contractor given the responsibility for the construction of the ward block is Fajarbaru Builder Sdn. Bhd.

KUALA LUMPUR, February 26 - The 2013 Chinese New Year celebration of the Ministry of Works (MoW) was held Dewan Tan Sri Mahfoz Khalid this afternoon. The event started with the arrival of the Minister of Works, YB. Dato ' Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor, who was accompanied by a lion dance troupe into the hall.

Deputy Minister of Works, YB. Dato’ Yong Khoon Seng then delivered his speech and ended by wishing a very Happy Year of the Snake to the guests present. The ceremony proceeded with all attendees mixing 'Yee Sang' to mark the onset of a prosperous year.

Throughout the event, attendees were entertained with Chinese cultural performances such as lion dance, Chinese orchestra and Chinese yoyo or Diablo games by a total of 38 students from Hua Hin Klang Secondary School. Also present were YBhg. Datuk Himmat Singh, Secretary General and senior officials of Ministries and Agencies.

LIPIS, February 21 - Minister of Works, YB. Dato' Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor, made a working visit to Package 3: Gua Musang - Relong Village Project, Central Spine Road (CSR) to review the progress of the construction works and he was very pleased because the project is progressing according to schedule.

CSR project linking Kuala Krai in Kelantan and Pahang’s Simpang Pelangai about 390 kilometers are divided into six packages and after the project is completed, the travel time from Kuala Lumpur to Kota Bharu, Kelantan will be shortened to just four hours instead of the current eight hours. CSR Construction gives priority to frequent areas of accident and the project is expected to be completed at the beginning of the 12th Malaysia Plan (RMK-12).

According to the Minister of Works, CSR Construction also got the attention of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Wildlife), and won praise from non-governmental organizations (NGOs), local and abroad for building animal crossing route under three bridges, known as Eco-Bridge along 1.35 kilometres as it is located between the Main Range and National Park.

KUALA LUMPUR, February 19 - Members of the Women's Association of Suri and the Public Service Commission (PUSPANITA) Branch of the Ministry of Works (MoW) has organized a 'cup of coffee' with Patron and Advisor, at the Tan Sri Khalid Mahfoz Hall this evening.

The Council is one of the PUSPANITA’s activities and is specifically special this time as it is held to celebrate the retirement of Deputy Secretary-General (Operations) of KKR who is also Chairman of the PUSPANITA KKR Branch, YBhg. Puan Sri Dato' Zaiton binti Mhad Ali.

The Council with a pink and blue theme was started off with a speech by the YBhg. Datuk Himmat Singh, Secretary General, who is also an advisor for PUSPANITA KKR Branch. The audience was then treated to performances by the next PUSPANITA member of KKR, Public Works Department (PWD), Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and the PUSPANITA Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA).

KUANTAN, February 14 - The government has increased the allocation of RM35 million to the Ministry of Works (MoW) for the repair of risky and accident prone routes on federal roads across the country. Works Minister, YB. Dato' Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor said the provision of a total of RM60 million will be allocated for the maintenance of 114 new accident prone areas in the Peninsula, Sabah and this allocation, he said, was approved by the Prime Minister, YAB. Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak after he witnessed the positive impact of the decreased levels of misfortunes in some ‘black’ or ‘black spot’ areas which has been maintained by the ministry before this.

"Prior to this, we already received an allocation of RM25 million to implement the related works, and this additional provision was announced by the Prime Minister last Thursday. It was approved after he was satisfied with the data that was released by Ministry from the information provided by Royal Malaysian Police showing a decrease of accidents at the identified black spot areas which is very promising after the maintenance work was carried out, "he said.

He was speaking to reporters after launching the implementation of the Work Vote Round 3 of the Federal Roads Maintenance, here today. Also present were Secretary General YBhg. Datuk Himmat Singh and the State Director of Public Works Department, YBhg. Datuk Ir Rosman Yahya. Works Minister said maintenance and repair in the 114 areas will begin next month and usually take four to five months to complete. In the meantime, he was also satisfied with the federal road maintenance work done by the subcontractors and hope the contractors that receive contracts from the ministry will implement their responsibilities efficiently.

"The first round of federal road maintenance work involving an allocation of RM37.4 million was launched in July last year in Alor Setar, Kedah saw all the work assigned to the selected contractor completed within the stipulated period. "Similarly, with the second round, which was launched last November in Ipoh, Perak. All contracts worth RM52 million is in progress and expected to be completed end of May," he said. He said the third round involves 262 projects worth of RM18 million was launched simultaneously today across the country and expected to be completed later this year. - Bernama
