SINCE the completion of the North South Expressway in 1994, this is the first time we have been told that there is a toll review mechanism clause in the concession agreements which prevents concessionaires from raising toll rates as they please, and that if the traffic volume hits a certain level, the toll increase can be averted.

Three cheers to Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed, Finally we have a minister who has studied the concession a agreement and told us, the toll payers, this provision in the agreement.

It really convinced me that one should not remain in the same post for too long; it is no good for the county.

Since 1994, all that we knew was that according to the concession agreement, we had no choice but to accept toll increases at certain time intervals.

We were told that failure to do so would result I the Government having to pay the concessionaires a huge sum of money to compensate for their losses.

The next thing I hope Mohd Zin will do is to declassify the concessions agreements.

Let the toll payers study in detail what the Government has signed on their behalf.
