KUALA LUMPUR: Highway Concessionaire PLUS Expressways Bhd is prepared to discuss with the government the plan to review concession agreements, managing director Noorizah Abd Hamid said yesterday.

She said PLUS had been providing all the information that the government requested.

"But we have not engaged with the government in any official discussion on this matter yet. We don't know what the review will be," she told reporters after a meeting with the company?s shareholders here.

Plus Chairman Tan Sri Mohd Sheriff Mohd Kassim said that based on what had been done in the past, the government always honored the terms of the concession agreement.

"I believe that they will continue to do so," he said.

Mohd Sheriff said under the existing agreement, the concessionaire was allowed to increase the toll rate by 10% every three years.

The toll rate was last raised in 2005 but in January thin year when the next increase was due, the government agreed to pay compensation and part of it had already been paid.

Noorizah said the compensation was based on the difference in the rate that PlUS should be allowed to rise with the rate that the company was charging now, multiplied by actual traffic.

Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed said earlier that the government was reviewing the agreements with toll concessionaire with the possibility of reducing toll rates.  He said the highway toll rates could be reduced but this depended on the finding of a study on the highway concessions being carried out by his ministry.
