PWD comes out with cartoons to make children aware of landslides

TAKING a leaf out of a Hong Kong book, the Public Works Department has decided to disseminate its message about landslides and its prevention in cartoon form on its website.

The series of messages urge children to be educated about slopes, to be alert in the changes of the flow of streams, as well as measures that should be adopted in the event a disaster of this nature strikes.

The target audience is the younger generation and PWD believes the cartoon format will be effective in grabbing their attention.

Kamar Kassim of the PWD's Slop Engineering Branch, who heads the Investigation Team (Bukit Antarabangsa) said the idea of displaying the messages was taken from a Hong Kong model.

He said the ultimate aim of the cartoon series is to get the younger generation to be able to identify slope hazards.
