An end to traffic problem

The bottleneck at the Bandar Sunway Semenyih junction, blamed for the daily traffic jams in Jalan Semenyih, will be widened in the coming months using federal funds.

Semenyih assemblyman Johan Ismail, who held a press conference at the site recently said the roads. Would be widened to a four lane carriageway to accommodate increasing traffic from Kajang and Semenyih.

“The 20m stretch is knows as Phase 1 of the RM20mil Jalan Kajang-Beranag upgrading project. The Phase 1 packages cost RM 5 mil and the Public Works Department is now calling for tenders,” he said.

He added that the bid for tenders would close on Aug 4 and said the Phase 1 project would solve a problem that had caused misery to the public for almost 10 years.

“Semenyih has a growing number of townships like Bandar Sunway Semenyih, Pelangi Semenyih, Desa Mewah and Kesuma Lakes. The roads need to be upgrade in tandem with the large volume of daily traffic,” he added.

Bandar Sunway Semenyih Residents Association chairman Ahmad Asmadi Adnan said it was the norm for heavy vehicles and motorist to make a U-turn in the residential area.

“If the road at the junction is upgraded more  vehicles are bound to enter Bandar Sunway Semenyih to make U-turns to head back toward Kajang, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur.

“We propose that the roads in the township be upgrade as well,” he added.

Meanwhile, a Desa Mewah resident, who gave her name as Chew, said police roadblocks near the junction often caused traffic to backup by a few kilometres.
