Dr Ng : Road riddled with problems | Kementerian Kerja Raya Langkau ke kandungan utama

Raub member of Parliamen Datuk Dr Ng Yen Yen appeared guarded when asked to comment about the closure of  the new road from the Gap to Fraser's Hill.

She did stress that the matter was "complicated, as one would have to consider the whole stretch of road and not just the area affected by the landslide.

"In early 2000, we requested the Federal Government to built a new road.

"The road was built to enhance the image of  Fraser's Hill. Since then, the road has been plagued by many technical problems," she said.

"As an MP, public safety comes first.

"As there were complications, the Public Works  Department was instructed to look into the matter," she stressed.

Bd Ng, who is Women Family and Community Development Minister, was unable to confirm when the road would re-open.

Fraser's Hill, home to the World Wide Fund for Nature's only highland Nature Education Centre in Malaysia, has been known for its natural wonders, especially local flora and fauna.

This hill resort, which is 1,524m above sea level and named after British explorer James Fraser's  consists of seven hills.

It  is  still a favoured  destination for KLites wishing to escape the humidity as well  as hustle and bustle of city life.

Tourism Malaysia dubbed Fraser's the prettiest hill resort in Malaysia- granite-coloured mock Tudor cottages set amidst brilliant coloured blooms of English-style country gardens.

Temperature in the day is around 24o C while at night, it can dip to 19oC.
