Traffic tangle from new projects | Kementerian Kerja Raya Skip to main content

PUCHONG: Planned and coordinated housing development, paired with the building of a proper infrastructure, is a boon to the people who live in an area. Without those, chaos will ensue.

This is the crux of the concerns raised by Pusat Bandar Puchong residents? association over a project taking shape in Pusat Bandar Puchong on a piece of land facing the Lebuhraya Damansara Puchong (LDP)

Association chairman Awie Ung says the main concern over the mixed development project is traffic moving in and out of Persiaran Wawasan from the LDP.

?The developer has proposed installing traffic lights at the junction of the LDP and Persiaran Wawasan. We feel this will be detrimental to the smooth flow of traffic the residents of Pusat Banda Puchong and Bandar Puteri are enjoying now.?

Ung, a consultant, points out that the traffic lights will cause a tailback along the LDP for those entering Persiaran Wawasan, and on Persiaran Wawasan for those waiting to get on Wawasan for those waiting to get on the LDP. And it is common knowledge traffic lights are bad for areas with high ? density traffic.

He says the residents have held several discussions with the developer. They also met Puchong member of parliament Gobind Singh Deo and Puchong state assemblyman Teresa Kok.

Association committee member Yan Soo Kai sayas: ?The traffic flow in the area is smooth and if the developer adds features for the benefit of his development which impedes the existing traffic flow, this will not sit well with the residents.

?A ramp from LDP built directly in to the development will take care of leave Persiaran Wawasan for the local traffic. We have proposed this during the recent dialogue.?

Both Ung and Yan have lived in Puchong for more than a decade, and they have seen the rapid growth of the township. The say traffic congestion is an issue that needs urgent attention.

Ung says there have been pockets of development in Puchong, but there appears to be no coordination with the various authorities when it comes to proper traffic planning.

? I thin it is critical now for a consultant to be appointed to look into the entire traffic planning in Puchong and to come up with solutions. This should be done by the local council.?

He says there seems to be some mystery over a ?missing link? that is to be built connecting the U-turn in fornt of Tesco to Taman Perindustrian Puchong, where three huge projects are taking shape.
