MUAR: Nine vehicles, including five vans and a small truck, fell into gaping hole when part of Jalan Abdullah here caved in last night.
No one was injured in the 7pm incident on the road situated beside a river. The 3m-deep hole measured 100m long and was 6m wide.
Cracks were also seen on a row of 12 shophouses located several metres from the road. Police have advised the occupants to move out.
A businessman, who only wanted to be known as Osman, said he was at home about 500m away from the road when he heard people shouting for help.
?When I reached the scene, it was chaotic. There were people struggling to help each other out of the hole and to get the vehicles out as well,? he added.
He claimed that the authorities could have averted the incident by fortifying the riverbank as signs of a possible landslip had appeared two weeks ago.
Muar OCPD Asst Comm Mohammad Nasir Ramli said no injuries were reported and that all the vehicles had been pulled out.
