KUALA LUMPUR: Parliament House is all set for the coming sitting where some 222 MPs will be sworn in.

For the past few days, Works Minister Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed and Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek have been inspecting the facilities to ensure that everything is in order.

Mohd Zin visited the ministers' new cubicles and media centre and the rooftop area which had been repaired following leaks.

He said the Public Works Department (PWD) had assured that the leaks would not recur but its deputy director-general (specialist sector) P.N. Selvanayagam could only guarantee that for about five years.

In April 2005, Dewan Rakyat was abruptly adjourned after water poured into the Chamber after a thunderstorm.

Selvanayagam said the water-proofing membranes had been replaced and an air cushion/buffer had been placed as a thermal insulator to prevent too much heat seeping into the building and reduce electricity usage.

He said the PWD will also conduct a full electrical and mechanical audit of the 47-year-old building.

Earlier, Datuk Ahmad Shabery inspected the facilities for live telecast of the 30-minute parliamentary Question Time segment.

He said RTM would place three permanent cameras in the Dewan which would involve about RM1mil worth of RTM assets.

"We used to rely on CCTVs which is limited as only standing MPs can be captured and the quality wasn't good," he said.
