KUALA LUMPUR: The roof over Parliament House has finally been repaired.
And the new Works Minister, Datuk Mohd Zin Mohamed, said the Public Works Department had given a guarantee there would be no more leaks.
"I have overseen the work and received the technical report and I am satisfied with it," he said after a visit.
He had directed the Parliament House's building management and the PWD to check the building and see if there were other weaknesses that needed to be rectified.
"It has been in use for 46 years and there are many weaknesses. "Parliament has gone through two major renovations which involved physical changes on the outside, but many of the mechanical and electrical (M&E) installations are around 46 years old.
"I have urged the PWD to look at the M&E so that we can, in stages, optimise them to ensure the building can operate at its maximum capacity."
Parliament House sprang a leak last year - two years after a RM90 million upgrade.
Mohd Zin's predecessor, Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu, attributed improper maintenance as the cause of this.
