Hari Kualiti & Hari Bertemu Pelanggan 2008 was held from 2 nd to 3 rd December 2008. The 2008 slogan is Kualiti dan Integriti Teras Kecemerlangan . The function was held to enhance awareness and develop quality culture among the staff. It was also to enable staff and customers of the Ministry of Works (MoW) to gain more knowledge on the ministry’s services through exhibitions, lectures and service counters.

Various programs such as quality exhibitions, integrity lecture, Green Card course by CIDB and related activities were organised. Launching the function, Y. Bhg. Dato’ Sri Dr. Abdul Munit bin Kasmin, Secretary General of Ministry, reminded MoW staff to understand the ministry’s job scope/functions in detail. Every staff, he said, know about Federal roads and Government buildings, including their locations, identifications and maintenance work.

The lecture on integrity entitled Integrity Dalam Perkhidmatan Awam was presented by Tuan Haji Mustapar Ali, Deputy President of the Institute of Integrity Malaysia (IIM). Y. Bhg. Dato’ Sri Dr Abdul Munit presented a token to Tuan Haji Mustapar, followed by a visit to the exhibition booths nearby.

Another lecture entitled Pengurusan Berkualiti was presented by Tuan Haji Isa bin Abu Bakar, Manager from Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) in the afternoon.

The program continued on the second day with a quality exhibition. The highlight of the function was the presentation of the 2008 Quality Award by Deputy Works’ Minister Dato’ Yong Khoon Seng at the Dewan Tan Sri Mahfoz Khalid at 2.30pm. The exhibition ended at 5.00 pm.

In his speech, YB. Dato’ Yong explained that the topic “Kualiti dan Integriti Teras Kecemerlangan” was opted because of the importance of quality and integrity. Strictly observed, the two elements would help cut cost and serve the people efficiently. He said good management would ensure the success of the 9 th Malaysia Plan.

Seven awards were presented to MoW’s staff. They were:

The winner and first runner-up for this category received Certificate of Appreciation and cash RM1000.00 and RM750.00 respectively.

Six persons received the award for the year 2008 and the Quality Management Committee agreed that each candidate must meet the criterions below:

  • First timer for the Excellence Service Award;
  • Scored 80% of 100% for performance in the past three years;
  • Served MoW or it’s agencies 30 years or more;
  • Free from any disciplinary action throughout the entire tenure of his/her service;
  • Not taken medical leave throughout 2007;
  • No record of unpunctuality throughout 2007; and
  • Contributed to activities organized by MoW or community.

Each winner of the Special Award will get cash and certificate of appreciation.

7. Public Works Personality Award

Several criterions have been identified by the secretariat in the selection of the winner. The criterions were as below:-

  • Must be a recipient of Excellent Service Award;
  • Must have contributed to organizations within or outside the country;
  • Knowledgeable and expert in certain fields;
  • Free from any diciplinary action during the entire service; and
  • Exemplary/ model (good personality).
  • The winner of the Public Works Personality Award for the agencies category received an offer to attend a short-term oversea course, a plaque and a certificate of appreciation.
